August 15 – Napoleon was born Napoleone
di Buonaparte of parents Carlo Maria di
Buonaparte ( father) and Maria Letizia Ramolino (mother) in Ajaccio, Island of Corsica,
France in a relatively modest family of Italian origin .
1778
December 15 – Napoleon left
Corsica for mainland France.
1779
January 1 – Napoleon entered
religious school at Autun in France
May 15 – Napoleon entered cadet
school at Brienne-le-Château.
1784
October 30 – Napoleon entered École Militaire in Paris for military training.
1785
September 1 – Napoleon graduated
from École Militaire and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant of Artillery.
October 30 – Napoleon’s first posting with the La Fère Artillery
Regiment at Valence-sur-Rhône.
1786
September 1 – Napoleon went to Corsica on long furlough until June 1788.
1788
June – Napoleon rejoined his
regiment at Auxonne, attached to School of Artillery.
1789
September 15 – Napoleon went on
second leave to Corsica, where he got involved in revolutionary activities and
attempts to gain favour with Pasquale Paoli, the Corsican Statesman and leader
of that time.
1791
February 10 – Napoleon returned
from Corsica to regimental duty at Auxonne.
April 1 – Napoleon was promoted
to 1st Lieutenant.
September 1 – Napoleon went on third furlough to Corsica.
1792
February 6 – Napoleon was promoted
to Captain (antedated).
April 1 – Napoleon was elected
Lieutenant Colonel, 2nd Battalion, Corsican Volunteers. Was implicated in a riot in Ajaccio.
May 28 – Napoleon returned to Paris,
instead of rejoining his regiment.
September 15 – Napoleon was back
to Corsica.
1793
February 22–25 – Napoleon was
assigned by Paoli, ( the Military Commander of the National Guard of the
island, directly nominated by the Revolutionary Govt. of Paris.) with the commands of artillery during
an unsuccessful military operation on
Maddalena Island, Sardinia.
March 3 – Napoleon broke with Paoli blaming him for the failed operation.
June 13 – Napoleon and his family
arrived in Toulonin France , having been banished from Corsica by Paoli.
August 27 – Toulon handed over to
the British by Royalists.
September 16 – Napoleon given
command of artillery besieging Toulon.
October 18 – Napoleon promoted to
Major.
December 17–19 – Successful
recapture of Toulon from British and Royalists.
December 22 – Napoleon promoted
to Brigadier General.

- 18 May 1804 which period is termed as ‘the Consulate’ in French history).
18 May 18, 1804- The Senate passed a bill introducing the
French Empire, with Napoleon as Emperor.
December 2, 1804 - Napoleon
crowned himself emperor of France in a lavish ceremony at the Cathedral of
Notre Dame in Paris.

Napoleon I, and various coaiitions formed by European powers from time to time, financed
